good ass music this year 2

So this year was pretty good music wise. Like my post last year it'll be of the stuff I listened to this year and really liked that came out this year. If you look at my list from last year you'll notice it'll be a different kind of structure. Anyways in no order at all.

Beastie Boys - Hot Sauce Committee Part Two
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
This album was one of my most highly anticipated releases ever since it was planned to be a release in '09 and it was suppose to be Pt. 1 too. It was delayed because MCA was diagnosed with cancer. He beat it in 2010 after surgery and treatments. Then it came out this year. I love the Beastie Boys so it was cool that this album was legit. There are some pretty funky sounding stuff on this one too. It sure beats their instrumental album.
favorite tracks: Make Some Noise, Lee Majors Comes Again, The Larry Routine (if that counts ahaha)

Smith Westerns - Dye It Blond
Pretty much some cool rock. Like a slight fuzz feel of it, almost like an old rock album too. But it's kinda "poppy" too. Really good summer album, though it came out in the beginning of the year. I don't have much else to say about this one, I think it speaks for itself more than anything.
favorite tracks: Weekend, All Die Young, Still New, Imagine Pt. 3

Julian Lynch - Terra
Don't have anything to say about this album really. The title track is really my favorite. It's probably the best folk album I listened to this year. Suck it Bon Iver...kidding the Bon Iver album is pretty alright.
favorite tracks: Terra

Fancy Mike - Sigma Chi Primavera
Fancy Mike is a midwest producer who makes really rad instrumental beats. He came out with a really good release last year Madison Square Gardener. He followed up that album with Sigma Chi Primavera. This album had some really cool collabs, remixes, and overall sick beats. It does also have one of the my favorite album covers of this year.
favorite tracks: Ramachandran (Pixelord's Tron Cat Remix)

4mat - Surrender
Interesting chipmusic album. It's chill and stuff. Made with an Amiga computer. A great album to listen to at night. Lovers has to be one of my favorite songs of all time now though. You can get it free or supporting the album by paying a few bucks for it.
favorite tracks: Lovers, Moonrock, Surrender

Starscream - Future, Towards the Edge of Forever
8 tracks, 8 rad songs. Awesome chipmusic. I think it could be an album that someone who doesn't like chipmusic could really like. I already liked Starscream so it's no surprise that this album is really good.
favorite tracks: Space, Thrashers (Infinity Shred)

Big K.R.I.T. - Return Of 4Eva
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Goddamn this one really surprised me. It's a mixtape but it's by far better than a lot of the hip hop albums I listened to this year. It may be in my top 5 of this year for sure. It's inspiring, it has great production. I'm really loving it more and more I listen to it. When K.R.I.T. delayed his debut studio album Live from the Underground until early 2012. I was really disappointed about the news but I got over it because Return of 4Eva will really be hard to top.
favorite tracks: Dreamin', The Vent, Rotation, R4 Theme Song

Danny Brown - XXX

This is one of the most bizarre, funny, overall great hip hop releases I came across this year. When I first downloaded this album (which is free here). I had a hard time really starting it because his voice and that led me to put it off for a while. I finally one day just gave it a listen and it blew me away. He had a lot of flows, the 2 songs with features are fun. I just fucking loved this so much. It would probably be in my top 3 albums that came out this year for sure. If you like hip hop you should give this a listen and just go with it.
favorite tracks: Pac Blood, Radio Song, Outer Space, DNA, Detroit 187 feat. Chip$

Ribbons and Bows - Hush
So I had a hard time deciding whether or not to put this album on this part of the list. I talked about this album previously here It pretty much already has my thoughts on the album. Just like I said before if you get past lo-fi sounding stuff, give it a chance.
favorite tracks:

Tyler, The Creator - Goblin

I know there is a good amount of people that kinda didn't like this album. I think most people were expecting Yonkers types of tracks throughout the whole album, plus there was huge hype that just didn't live up to people's expectations. This was another one of my most anticipated releases. I still liked this album, but I think I knew what I was getting more than other people. If you don't really like Odd Future, a good chance that you will not like this album but if you want to give it a chance get the deluxe version for Burger and Steak Sauce. Also, he really blew up this year, whatever. If you are an Odd Future fan for sure listen to this but to make it a better listen by listening to his first album BASTARD then go straight into this. **get the deluxe btw if interested**
favorite tracks: She (Featuring Frank Ocean), Nightmare, Steak Sauce, Burger

Lil B - I'm Gay
SWAGSWAGSWAGFUCKMYBITCHBASEDGODWOOP . That's pretty much how most people know Lil B. Before this this album was announced there was a track he did Motivation that was on his Angels Exodus album. I was totally hooked on that track. I thought "If Lil B did more stuff like this he'd be taken more seriously". So later when he announced he was releasing an album called I'm Gay a lot of people were skeptical about it being legit or Lil B wanting attention. I figured my thought of a more serious Lil B would never happen now. On June 29th the album did come out with no prior release date. I know there were people that were like "OMG I HAVE TO HEAR HOW BAD THIS ALBUM IS!!!!?!?". I did download it the day it came out. When I did eventually listen to this I was amazed about how I liked it, with many others. I know the rapping on the album isn't the greatest, but the production was really good . I know still there are people that refuse to listen to this album or just think it's shit. It isn't really the best rap album of the year, but it was an album that surprised me the most this year. So if you had doubt about Lil B's and his "based" raps I think it'd be a good idea to give this a chance at least. Thank you Based God for making an album of yours I liked.
favorite tracks: The Wilderness, I Hate Myself

Burmese - Lun Yurn
Of all the albums this year this was the most raw and intense album. Burmese is I guess a noise rock, hardcore, whatever band. Who cares, I found myself enjoying it a ton. It really ends on an awesome note with a sick improvised last track that's like 4o minutes long. I really can't recommend this album to many people. Though I guess if you like noise or alright hardcore you could maybe like this but I won't guarantee anything. Also if you think they are some Chinese band because of the cover and song titles, they're not. They're from Iowa ahahaha.
favorite tracks: Lok Ga Goul Diu Dole Ngo Gou Hu Lum Tao, Untitled

Das Racist - Relax
This was an album I was looking forward to for awhile with a few others. I loved their previous release Sit Down, Man so much and Shut Up, Dude was good too. With 2 releases that I enjoyed in 2010. I was happy to know they were coming out with a full album. Earlier this year they released the first single for the album Michael Jackson. I won't lie, I was not feeling this song at first and the following listens after. After some time goes by and the album finally comes out, I was really disappointed. It really killed me that this album wasn't good at first listen. I however started listening to it more and more and found myself being less disappointed each listen. It's a good album with good fun songs. Although Rainbow In The Dark was already on their first mixtape so it felt a little out of place. Still love the tune though.
favorite tracks: Michael Jackson, Happy Rappy, Power (feat. Danny Brown and Despot), Rainbow In The Dark

Japanther - Beets, Limes and Rice
</a
It would be a lie to say these guys weren't one of my favorite bands. I actually had no idea they had an album coming out in 2011, so when I found out it was awesome news to me. When it came out I got it and it was just great for me. They could put on anything and I probably would love it.
favorite tracks: n/a love the whole album.

Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire - Lost In Translation
favorite tracks: Build-A-Bitch, I Should Be Sleepin', Huzzah!, The Last Huzzah! (feat. Despot, Das Racist, Danny Brown & El-P)

So yeah that's about it. I just want to get this post over with. Yeah I know there's a lot of albums I probably missed out on but cba to listen to everything. It's not like I'm the internet's biggest music nerd.
